  • Kohala Coast: Experience the romance of sunset beach weddings along the Kohala Coast, north of Kailua-Kona. This area, stretching from Kona International Airport to Waikoloa Beach resorts and further north, features less crowded beaches with picturesque settings for memorable Kona sunsets. Options abound near Kailua-Kona town and its southern and northern vicinities.

  • East Shore: Discover secluded black sand beaches, waterfalls, and Hilo town's romantic park-like coastal settings.

Important Notes

Restrictions for Beach Events

​

  • Prohibited Items: Drones, structures, amplified instruments, and any equipment, including arches, tables, chairs, tents, event signage, and ocean recreation gear, are not allowed on or within the premises for events.

  • Decorations and Seating: Contact us for decorative items or if seating is needed for elderly guests.
     

Participant Limitations

​

  • Public beach weddings or ceremonies are capped at 25 participants, including vendors. Kikaua Beach Park has a maximum of 20 people.

  • The Big Island is ideal for private beach weddings or romantic celebrations in unique locations like vacation rentals with ocean views or private estates.

 

Beach Permit Update - May 2021

​

Certain beaches now fall under State Park Division management, requiring couples to apply for a permit at least 45 days prior:

  1. Kohanaiki Beach

  2. Hapuna Beach

  3. Waialea Beach (Beach 69)

  4. Manini'owali Beach (Kua Bay) and Kekahakai State Park

  • For ceremonies at these locations, contact the district office as indicated on the Department of Land and Natural Resources> Division of State Parks website.

  • Approval is mandatory for events at these beaches. Email us a copy of the approved permit to proceed.
